Confused How to Transfer a Massage License to Florida?
LMT's needing to move to Florida must complete an application process known as "becoming licensed by endorsement” in order to receive your Florida massage license. To complete this procedure, applicants must first go to the Florida Massage Board website. Print out your application from their website and refer to the instructions provided.
As soon as you fill out the forms, mail it back to the Florida Board with the required fee. The Florida Board will begin a personal file while they look for information regarding your massage training and massage license to be mailed in to the them. You'll have one full year in order to complete the subsquent actions.
Secondly, you have three mandatory continuing education courses to complete. These courses are 10 hour Florida Massage Law, three hour HIV/AIDS for massage professionals, as well as two hours of prevention of medical errors. The CE courses can often be purchased as an endorsement package by ce providers. Soon after the completion of these courses, you should obtain a transcript to submit to the Massage Board.
Third, contact the state board where you are currently licensed, and have them forward proof of your license directly to the Florida Board. The application presents added specific requirements for this step. Your current state board of massage may require a small fee along with service.
Then, speak to the provider of the licensing exam you completed to get your current state massage license. This is the National Certification Board of Therapuetic Massage (NCBTMB) if you took the NCETM, NCETMB Exam, or NESL Exam. If you took the more recent MBLEx exam, get hold of the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSTMB). You need to request they mail evidence of your score directly on to the Florida Board. You will likely need to pay a fee for this service .
Finally, speak to the place where you achieved your five hundred hours (or more) of massage training. The school will also need to forward a transcript to the Board office.
When you complete the steps, the Florida Board of Massage will automatically mail your license to practice massage.
The process could take less than thirty days, but typically takes more. It's best to begin this process prior to relocating to Florida, so you will be able to start working right after your move. The Florida Board levies substantial fines and penalties to people performing massage without having a Florida massage license. Also, most Florida LMT's will need to request an establishment license. There is a second charge for this, and it will require an inspection of your facilities before providing massage to the general public.
